Downtown Beautification knitty pearls

Envision downtown Freeland (starting at Main Street and Harbor Ave) with planter boxes in front of businesses and along the roadway and corners, filled with beautiful annual and perennial flowers. Sounds attractive, right?

A study done in 2004 found visual and safety issues around entering/exiting the many non-conforming parking lots in our business core, which could be resolved and improved visually with simple landscape planters/barriers.

One part of the project was in partnership with US Bank. We upgraded their landscaping and re-introduced boulevard trees along Main Street and Harbor Avenue. The bank committed over $6,000 to this portion of the Freeland Beautification project which was completed in 2006. In addition, we recently received a $45,000 grant from the Regional Transportation Planning Organization to install Landscape Planter/Barriers along Main Street and Harbor Avenue as part of our parking access/pedestrian safety/beautification project (90% completed in 2009).

If you like plants, digging in the dirt, or garden design we could use your help with this project!
