Bill Frederick – Director
My vision for the greater Freeland area is summarized in the Freeland Mission and Vision Statements developed for the Freeland Subarea Plan - "to create a healthy, vibrant, safe place where people love to visit, learn, walk, bike work and live."
Bill was raised in upstate New York near Rochester, in a small township of 800 in farming country. His family lived on 7 acres, with 4 greenhouses of cut flowers, large gardens, cows, chickens, rabbits and a big yard to push-mow. His family moved to Seattle once discovering its beauty on a vacation, spending summers and weekends on the island in the 1960's. Bill has his BA in Education Degree with a math-science major and fine arts minor from Seattle Pacific University. He taught school for 5 years (grades 6-9) in Seattle and Bellevue. His Master's work includes Religious Education from Asbury Theological Seminary, and Business Administration from Seattle University. He also did Post-Graduate work in Health, Education & Physics with Seattle Pacific University and the University of Washington. Bill worked for 10 years as an Administrative Assistant, supporting the King County Council in the areas of Public Works: (transportation, solid waste, surface water management), trails, energy conservation and County Extension Service. He also joined Boeing, working in business training, 747 personnel and Corporate Public Affairs Practical Politics education. Today he works on Whidbey Island for the South Whidbey Fire District as an EMT, and for Whidbey General Hospital in patient transfer. A dedicated member of the FoF board, Bill focuses on its Trails and Pathways work. He brings his knowledge of Freeland to FoF from his longtime participation in the Freeland Sub Area Planning Committee, where he served as Volunteer Coordinator.
