Ellen Dickey, Director
Ellen received a BA followed by a Lifetime Teaching Credential from Humboldt State University. After teaching elementary school for a number of years, Ellen began helping adults who were permanently disabled on the job to upgrade their basic educational skills so as to move on and retrain in other professions. She then became an active educator in California's Welfare to Work Program. Last summer, Ellen took part in reviewing codes for the Freeland Subarea Planning Effort. Currently, she is helping Friends of Freeland make the annual December Arts and Crafts Sale a success.
What Ellen thinks about Freeland, "Visiting the library, buying my groceries, walking the beaches and trails, what impresses me over and over is how this area is a magnet for attracting friendly, dynamic, and environmentally aware people. I notice that we share the common desire of preserving the beauty and tranquility we've found here for ourselves and those who follow us. Meeting local people frequently feels like opening the door to a room full of friends who are strongly bonded with our common love of this land."
